From my experience, there are a lot of different ways to make money on the internet. It takes some knowledge of how to set up an online business, but after you do that, you can really do well. One method that has worked for me is what I call “one off products.” What I mean by this is you take the knowledge in your head, hold a seminar or webinar, record that presentation, and then sell it over and over again.

When promoting a one off product, you will want to follow these six easy steps.

1. Pick a familiar subject. It should be something you can talk about for at least one hour, and I am convinced that everyone has a topic like that, whether it is pie making, photography, or automobile repair. No matter the topic, keep it simple because your goal is to quickly put out some good, helpful content that will generate cash flow.

2. Create an outline. Let me give you a simple way to do this.

Get out a sheet of paper, and write your topic in the middle of it.

Then brainstorm some subtopics for your main topic.

Write these down and see if you can come up with two good details about each one of these subtopics.

You need maybe eight to ten subtopics with two details for each one. Once you have those, you have an outline for sixty-minute presentation. How easy is that?

3. Sign up for a free teleseminar service. You can find one that is free to use, and you can get up to 250 callers on the line. The cool thing is you can record your teleseminar and download it when you are done.

4. Invite people to your seminar. But maybe you are wondering who you should invite? Start with the people you know. Send out a notice to your website, blogs, and email lists. Leave no stone unturned. Get the word out about the amazing, informative seminar you will be hosting.

5. Sell seats to your seminar. My friend Jim Bob Howard showed me this great site called Event Bright. It is also free to use. How it works is your customers pay Event Bright, and then the site pays you. The clincher is you do not pay for their service until people pay you by buying seats. This frees you from a lot of administrative headache.

6. Make a recording of your seminar. If you do this, you will be able to use your recording over and over again. For example, you can market the recording as an audio CD or have it transcribed for an ebook. You can even combine some of your “one off products” and make them into a home study course. The options are infinite.

So what are you waiting for? Why not set up an online business today?

If you want your website to work well with search engines, then you must ensure that your web designer knows about how search engines work and knows how he should write your site so as to ensure it ranks as well as possible over time.

A business website should act as another member of its sales team, bringing in leads to your business to then be converted into sales. The job of a website is to appear in the path of traffic that are looking for the services your company provides and to then convert that traffic into a sale, an enquiry or at least a sign up to the newsletter.

List building is an important sales aspect, but the main purpose of your site is to sell your company’s product or service. The primary call to action on your site is to do exactly that, sell what you sell. However if the lead decides not to buy what you want to sell them, you should then ask them to sign up to your newsletter.

Basic web design is also very important. So often we see sites that look visually fantastic, but due to being designed as one piece of flash, are totally unsuitable to be optimized. Effective search engine optimization relies upon many on page factors being present. The basics of the search engines operation depends upon the search engine being able to read your page. A search engine can only read the words that you place on the page, if you want to rank for Fish tank but the words do not appear anywhere on your page, how can you expect a computer to know that is what you wish to rank for?

There are over 100 on-page factors that search engines look at to determine what keywords to rank you for and each factor adds extra weight to how dedicated your site is to that keyword. Badly made sites are diluted with many keywords only written once, and so search engines often do not rank them well. Site building software like Joomla is usually very limited in what you can tweak to make your site readable to a search engine.

If you are serious about getting to the top of a search engine ranking to get the most from your site, then it is important to do some research of your own into SEO first before you commit to paying thousands of pounds for a website to ensure that you dont end up with something that will never perform well in search engines.

A lot of web designers are still fairly ignorant to SEO and so continue to design and deliver websites that are never going to make anyone any money.

by Anthony James Goolsby

I often see new copywriters, when they complete their training, begin by writing for the Internet. A mistake I see, however, is they fail to keep in mind the key differences between writing for the Internet and writing for print. We will cover some of these differences here, and I promise if you keep these “golden rules” in mind as you write for the Internet, you will achieve much success.

There are three crucial differences between traditional publishing and writing for the Internet:

Audience

Format

Lifespan

These differences are important and must be taken into consideration writing for the internet.

Audience

Any writer must consider their audience. But audience consideration is even more important when writing for the Internet. The basics won’t change (like identifying who your primary target audience will be, for example), but there are some huge differences in other areas.

First of all, your audience is somewhat guaranteed in a traditional publication. Most people, once they have bought a magazine or newspaper are likely to at least give each page a cursory read before setting the item aside. Not so online. When writing for the Internet you must always keep in mind your reader can leave as easily as a click of the mouse. People don’t have a lot of time to waste so you must remain on target and highly focused at all times. As the writer, if you do not appear to be delivering good content the reader will simply go elsewhere… fast. Please do not take this to mean you must cater to the lowest common denominator; you don’t. Your audience is not stupid. But you do need to know your targeted audience and how to deliver for their wants and desires.

Format

Another important point when writing for the Internet is that many online readers are what I call skimmers. They scan your copy quickly before committing themselves to reading the entire thing. It is important to write clearly and concisely. Use punchy headlines and subheadings, as well as solid introductions and conclusions, as these are key points for skimmers.

Trying to mimic traditional magazine articles or offline printed documents is a common mistake that I see in new writers. Actually there are some big differences. Because a reader will read the Internet differently from ‘physical pages’, like say in a book, writing for the Internet requires some different techniques. The entry point is one of the most important. Did you know that a search engine might send readers to a point somewhere in the middle or end of your document? Now, if you wrote concise and accurate content, readers could very well go back to the beginning of your article to read it properly. There is a way to avoid this altogether though, that will keep the ’skimmers’ skimming. Try breaking longer pieces of text into a few stand-alone sections that fit together as a whole document or even separate documents if looked at in the same manner. (This article, broken into individual stand-alone segments, serves as an example.)

Lifespan

Finally, an important difference between traditional publications and writing for the Internet is lifespan. While the apparent lifespan of many electronic documents appears to be short-lived, this is simply not true. In fact, I would argue the exact opposite is more the reality. Newspaper and magazine articles in print are only current for a day, week or the month of their publication, but then are archived on the Internet where they may frequently reside for years. So while it is important as a writer to be fresh and current, also keep in mind that your reader may access your words at some undetermined point in the future. (In other words, try not to be too topical. You may severely date your article in the process.)

Keep these three key points — audience, format, and lifespan — in mind when writing for the Internet and I promise you will achieve greater writing success.
